Adopted a cat from here, and the staff was super nice, friendly, and answered all my questions! Love what they do to help animals without a home and highly recommend going here to pick up a new family member! Pictures of our new family member, Binx!

Phenomenal staff. Josie was extremely helpful even while super busy. She as well as another woman had helped me adopt Draco. You can tell all the staff members genuinely care and love these animals. The adoption process was easy yet thorough making sure every animal is placed with a family who will care for the animals. While meeting Draco the staff gave us time to get to know each him as well as taking him for a walk. If you are looking to adopt please consider the Humane Society.

We recently adopted our first cat. Nagini (formerly Bonsai). The humane society was incredibly busy, but the staff was friendly and attentive to everyone. We are first time cat owners and they gave a plethora of information to us and made everything quick and painless. We would definitely adopt from here again.

Sad experience here today. This place has lost all concept of what a shelter’s mission should be… to get animals into loving homes.

My partner and I are new to the area, just moved into a new home and have decided we are ready for a kitten. Went into the shelter to see a few kittens, to which we were prompted to fill out an application. Within the application I noted that we let our 6 year old cat outside. Now by outside, I mean that she sits on the porch with us in the evenings and mornings because she enjoys rolling on the concrete. I would say she spends 5% of her time outside with us, which my vet has approved of. I was approached and told that we were banned from ever adopting there because our cat goes outside. Are you kidding me No further questions or clarifications asked. You can see in the pictures attached, that our cat has a pretty good life and we are the definition of a good home for an animal.

I completely understand you need to be picky with homes that animals go to, however the lack of detail in their questioning is leading to good homes being turned away rather than bad ones. It breaks my heart that this place jeopardizing a shelter animals ability to get into a loving home. Negligence - Heartbroken to say the least. I am an advocate for animal adoption and I’m baffled by this places lack of screening and care to get these animals into loving homes.

We adopted a beautiful puppy from here 2 weeks ago. The process was very easy. All of our questions were answered thoroughly and without ridicule. Although puppy parenting comes with its challenges, he has settled into our home well and we adore him. He has helped bring light back into our lives after the loss of our 13 year old retriever/lab. He is an excellent companion for our 8 year old shepherd/lab!

We adopted a cat from here (previously Houdini, now known as Peaches) and absolutely loved all of the staff we spoke with. They made every step of the process as easy as possible and answered every question we had. The cat area was ABSOLUTELY SPOTLESS clean and didn't have your typical "shelter" smell either. All of the cats we saw were well groomed and cared for. The introduction room they took us to with our girl was spacious and clean with a nice cat tree and several toys so we could engage with Peaches. We will be returning for all of our additions to our family❤️

4 months later, our girl is doing so good. She has adjusted so well to her new home, and finally realizes she's home to stay! Thank you Humane Society for making our family whole❤️

I recently picked out my second dog this year through the Empty The Shelters Bisell supported program. The vet and pet care services are professional, thorough and kind. You meet the staff personally and see these needy pets are loved the best they can be in shelter environment. I appreciate how well SWMo Humane Society interviews and provides information for one to know how to make the right decision. Our new adoption dog who is a senior who may not have alot of time on earth but she is wonderful and beautiful and gives more to our pet family of 3 dogs and one cat now. She was a stray and loves being loved, living freely and is adapting and playing well. It's a joy to see a happier dog!
You are sent home with a pet that has been provided with all up to date vet care required including spaying/neutering, microchip, food for transitioning and information for helping the adjustment to your home. Also information of a supported, independent low cost vet clinic alternative is provided Having ones own vet is recommended but this is a perfect start for a new pet owner.
Thank you SWMO Humane staff, the person(s) who paid a low cost surrender fee and Animal control for saving our beloved dogs! Also thank you Bissell for supporting a low cost adoption fee at certain times of the year. You all have a heart but the Humane society has made this happen!

I volunteer here the staff is great and very friendly. Here we really get to know the dogs and cats we form bonds with them it's sad to see them but know they will be happier I saw a review complaining about us not using masks we do this to get them used to a friendly face being in a kennel is already stressful enough for animals and having masks on only makes it worse I love these dogs and am there anytime I can be attached are some of my favorites I loves those babies and if there is agression with a dog learn it's story first Oswald is a pure hearted dog but is best as a only pet because when he was 3 months old his family left him outside he had to fight for his food or he didn't eat don't just judge them listen to the story behind them Oswald is one of my favorites and I think he would really make a family happy
